Chrysocolla

Chrysocolla is a copper derivative mineral that may contain an assortment of minerals including malachite, azurite limonite, cuprite and quartz. It is generally found either in veins, botryoidal or in rounded masses. It has a Moh’s hardness rating ranging from 2 to 7. This large variation is dependent on the amount of silica included with the stone when it is forming in the ground. Chrysocolla can be found in many countries around the world with Democratic Republic of Congo and Chile being prominent, as well as Arizona, California, New Mexico and Utah in the U.S.

Chrysocolla can vary quite dramatically in color. The mineral can be a light green color right through to a brilliant Caribbean Blue. Typically most pieces are multicolored blue and green and can have mineral color inclusions of white, black and brown.

Chrysocolla has been used for centuries in the production of jewelry in both silver and gold. The harder pieces (highly silicated) are used in jewelry while the softer pieces are especially desirable for carving. Due to the variability of color and patterning the finished chrysocolla pieces have their own special individuality.

The metaphysical properties of chrysocolla are numerous and particularly relevant in these troubled times. By extension the large pieces of chrysocolla could permeate the entire house. It helps release negative energy due to stress, job loss and emotional overwhelm. Chrysocolla helps to bring peace and calmness. If you are angry or feeling guilty for whatever reason this stone can help. If you are looking for a boost in creativity or balance, this is the stone for you.

Having problems with the neighbors, spam calls and emails? Chrysocolla has been used to help guard against these annoying intrusions. The elderly find it especially helpful to lessen the fear of living alone.

Chrysocolla can help with a lot of physical problems. It can help with lung function, stomach pains, arthritis, high blood pressure and back pains. Truly a stone for all reasons!

An Interesting side note: The Copper World mine in California (just a short distance from Las Vegas) was, at one time, the most famous copper mine in the world. Why was it famous? In the 1800’s it was the largest copper mine in the world! Besides producing vast amounts of copper the Copper World mine also produced many beautiful specimen pieces which unfortunately are few and far between now.
