Avalokiteswara

Among the 108 forms of Lokeswara, Avalokiteswara is one who refuses to accept Nirvana since he considers such acceptance selfish in view of the ignorance of the great majority of the people who have not yet attained that stage. His sacrifice symbolizes infinite Karuna (compassion), sharing of mankind's misery, willingness to help those in distress. He is savior and protector from danger. He has 1000 arms, each palm has an eye in it so he can see all who are suffering and in need of help. He has 11 heads, 9 of them are his (his head split after realizing the immense amount of suffering that exists), one is his spiritual father Mahakala, and the last is the the head of a buddha.

His mantra is Om Mani Padme Hum and is found inscribed on rocks, loose stones, in prayer wheels, etc. Avalokiteswara is called Chenrisig in Tibet, and the current Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of Chenrisig. #C9

Prayer Wheel

This is a hand held prayer wheel from Nepal. The mantra of "Om Mani Padme Hum", also known as the 6 syllable prayer, is written 108 times on a piece of paper. It is then rolled up and placed within the cylinder of the wheel. Then when the wheel is spun, every rotation equals the mantra being said 108 times, sending thousands of blessings out to all beings. Some of our prayer wheels have different colored beads, some have beads on top as well as the sides. But they are all similar to the one pictured. #C14

The mala is the symbol of the never ending cycle. It is a string of seeds or beads, some are made of stone or even bone. They are used to count mantras, or prayers. They usually have 108 beads. This particular mala is made from Tulse seeds. They are extremely light in weight, so they are comfortable to use. Wooden Kwan Yin

This is a really pretty statue of Kwan Yin, the goddess of compassion. She is carved out of monkey pod wood in Bali. She is standing on a wooden lotus and is carrying a basket (of blessings). She is very peaceful looking. The two tones of the wood create nice swirls, that help her robes look like they are really draping around her. #C18

Quartz Kwan Yin

This is a one of a kind piece. A beautiful Kwan Yin has been hand carved into a quartz crystal. The termination of the crystal has been polished, so light can come through the piece and bring Kwan Yin to life. The rest of the crystal has been left natural. She is holding her vase of nectar. The carving sits on a removable black pedestal. Please see page 3 for one other quartz Kwan Yin (slightly smaller). #C20
