The word “crystals” can be confusing. Some people think of “light catchers” that hang in a window as being crystals when they are really leaded glass. Others think quartz crystals are the only crystals. Yet many minerals grow in a crystal formation. Some examples are tourmaline, emerald, topaz, lapis, ruby and sapphire, to name just a few. Even salt and potassium can form into crystals. But not all minerals that crystallize have the classic shape that quartz crystals have. Quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, ametrine, rutilated quartz and others can grow into beautiful crystals, as well as growing in non-crystal form.

Tabby Quartz Cluster

The word tabby describes a quartz crystal that has grown in a tabular or flat form. They are wonderful stones to meditate with. This cluster has a few regular quartz along with at least 3 tabby crystals. One of the tabby's had, at some point in it's evolution, broken off. It has self healed the break. From the Corintos area of Brazil. #crys37

Freeform Phantom Quartz

This is an artistic piece. It has been cut from a phantom quartz (it looks like a crystal inside a crystal). It has been shaped into a dome with 3 separate faces cut into the front surface. Hard to describe, but really beautiful. This piece lights up nicely on a light box.

Smoky Quartz Crystal

This is a light smoky quartz crystal from Brazil. It is very clear and almost has a pale citrine quality to it's color. It has been polished. Many people like having smoky quartz around them as it is a stone of grounding and protection. #crys11

Red Rutile in Quartz

This is a fun crystal. It is a smoky quartz that is full of red rutile (titanium oxide crystals). There are also bursts of clevelandite inside it. Some of these areas make it to the surface as open areas. They are filled with the white polishing compound ( a powdery substance). I left it in to protect the open areas but someone who likes to detail crystals could clean it out. It really is pretty. Taller on one side. #crys30
