Tibetan Tektites Page 2
Tektites are made of a glassy material that is very silica rich, harder than natural glass and void of much water. This makes them different than the other glass like materials that are naturally found on the earth, like volcanic glass. Their origins are still debated by scientists. Some people feel they were originally meteoric material that had most of the iron content burn off as it came through our atmosphere. Other people believe that as asteroids or meteorites have impacted the earth, the surrounding rock, or pieces of the meteorite, gets basically hurled back into space. When they fall back, they are falling so fast through our atmosphere that they stretch or flatten. They have distinct round patty shapes, or some are like dog bones or dumb bells, while others are tear drop shape. They have pits and mini-craters and wonderful markings. They are also called impact glass. Most are black and opaque unless you get a very thin piece, then you can see they are amber or root beer brown in color. The exception is moldavite, which is a lovely green.
Tektites are mainly found near the sites of meteor craters. However, more tektites are being found farther away from the usual five known sites, which makes one wonder what impact sites we have yet to discover. Tibetan tektites, also known as Tibetanites, fit into this category. They could be part of the Australasian strewn field. They are similar in appearance to the Indochinites. But these were found in dry lake beds in North-central Tibet.
Viewed as gifts from heaven, the Tibetan tektites are cherished by the monks and lamas who use them as meditation stones. They aren't the only ones who feel these "stones" have positive energy. Many cultures feel the tektites can help you connect with extraterrestrial beings and knowledge. They are also used for protection, good health, and good luck. They have a higher vibration than many stones but not as buzzy as moldavite. Many people find Moldavite hard to be around. Tektites have a gentler yet still powerful energy. When working with them in pairs, one in each hand, you can really have a fascinating experience. If they start to feel kind of quiet, gently tap them together and they come right back to life. Very interesting tools to use in meditation, healing and energy work.
These particular tektites came from a Tibetan man who brought tektites and Tibetan quartz out of the country over 50 years ago. He just stored it all away until just a few years ago. We were able to get some wonderful quartz and tektites from him. We feel very lucky to have been able to have these powerful tools come our way. We haven't been able to find any others, so what we have is it.

Tear Drop Tibetan Tektite
This Tektite has a slight tear drop shape. It is almost an inch thick, so it has a nice heavy feel to it. One side has the small pitting that is seen in moldavite. The other side has more of the irregular shaped craters. It resonates well with the heart and throat chakras, perhaps helping one to speak from the heart. For those who want a nice, gentle tektite. #tektites 12

Oval Tibetan Tektite
This tektite is oval in shape with some deep craters as well as some smaller pitting. The back side is fairly smooth. Many of the disc shaped tektites have flattened out but this one is fairly thick, almost a full inch. This would be a good one for someone who astral travels as it would help you travel as well as help you to stay well grounded during your journeys. #tektites 13

Oblong Tibetan Tektite
This tektite has an interesting shape. It actually stands up on one end. It has nice craters and pits, even on the very ends. When you hold this one, you get an interesting sensation. You feel yourself getting very grounded, as if your feet are becoming one with the earth. But you also feel yourself starting to lift up towards the sky. If you want to astral travel but are fearful you'll zip off, this can help. Fun! #tektites 14

Oblong Shaped Tibetan Tektite
This tektite has a nice symmetrical oval shape. It has nice pitting and craters, as well as smooth areas. It has an actual edge on one side. Interesting. It looks like it has been worn down a bit. Perhaps it was one of the tektites you read about that were used by the monks in Tibet. If only they could talk and tell us their history. It seems to work at the throat and third eye. #tektites 19
