Lovely Rose Quartz

By Charli Lundholm

Rose quartz is such a beautiful stone. It can be a pale pastel pink or bright pink mixed with white quartz. It is found in many areas of the world but Brazil, Madagascar and South Dakota are among the top producers. The Madagascar rose quartz is some of the finest, with wonderful clarity and a soft pink color. When cut right, as in a cabochon or sphere, it can produce a floating star, just like a star sapphire.

Rose Quartz Pocket Stones

Rose quartz grows in large massive chunks or very small natural crystals. Clear quartz, amethyst and citrine are all in the quartz family as well and can grow into large crystals. But natural rose quartz crystals are not only rare, they are quite small. They are usually no larger than 1/4 inch tall. All the large polished rose quartz “crystals” you see have actually been shaped and polished from large massive pieces of rose quartz. But this doesn’t detract from their beauty or their wonderful metaphysical properties.

Rose quartz is a gentle stone that works at the 4th, or heart, chakra. It is all about love; compassion, love and unconditional love for oneself and others. The word “ourselves” is very important here as we have a tendency to leave ourselves off the compassion list. But we deserve unconditional love from ourselves too! Rose quartz helps us heal emotional wounds as well to be more heart based and less “head” based. We should all have to carry some rose quartz with us! The world would be a kinder and gentler place. We have pocket sized rose quartz in our tumbled stones section.
